PA Oktoberfest rolled into Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs in Wilkes-Barre this past weekend for its fourth annual Oktoberfest celebration. The event kicked off Friday, Sept. 12 with a three-day celebration of food, entertainment, and most importantly, beer!

Visitors had the pleasure of sampling food from 13 local vendors, including Fire & Ice’s Jager Schnitzel Sandwich, Alpine Wurst & Meat House’s authentic German Bratwurst, and What the Fork’s beer-infused menu.

Among the numerous live entertainment events this year were musical performances by Joe Stanky and His Cadets, The Alders, and Romy. Visitors were encouraged to test their might in the Strong Man & Woman competition, holding a 64-ounce pitcher containing Oktoberfest beer with an outstretched arm. Also returning this year was the ever-popular wiener dog races, with over 200 dachshunds competing for glory. New to the festival this year was The Crystal Lederhosen Homebrew Competition. The best-in-show homebrew had the honor of being brewed commercially by local Carbondale brewery 3 Guys and a Beer’d.

However, no Oktoberfest celebration would be complete without a wide assortment of beer options. Visitors were able to choose from over 60 different beers this year. Options included local favorites like SBC’s Pumpkin and Nimble Hill’s Mysteria, German favorites like Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier, various pumpkin ales, Oktoberfest brews, and hard ciders, along with Miller Lite and Coors Light for those who want to hold onto summer just a little bit longer.

Prost!
