Heavy Blonde just debuted a new single, “Johnny Got Fangs,” from their upcoming free “Sun” EP, and it definitely has the bite the title promises.

While they’re a relatively new band from Scranton, the players are all familiar names to the local music scene. And the Moneynotes members Mike Williams, his brother Roy Williams, and Jeff “Setty” Hopkins formed the band and are joined by Pat Finnerty and Brian Craig (And The Moneynotes, Okay Paddy), JP Biondo (Cabinet), and Nick Driscoll (Indigo Moon Brass Band) on their upcoming debut album, “Heatwave.”

Until that record arrives, however, fans can download the “Sun” EP for free on Monday, Oct. 27, and stream “Johnny Got Fangs” right now below. A video of the band shot by NEPA Scene playing this song live at Arts on the Square in downtown Scranton in July can also be seen here.

Highway 81 Revisited premiered a trailer for “Heatwave” last month, though an official release date has yet to be announced:

Those looking to catch the band live can see the Williams brothers at the last “Concert in the Coop” of the season at The Cooperage (1030 Main St., Honesdale) on Friday, Oct. 31 at 7:30 p.m. The venue describes Heavy Blonde as a “blend [of] tropical music with country, pop, swing, and beautiful vocal harmonies.”

“It works brilliantly,” said John Kascht, organizer of the “Concerts in the Coop” series, in a press release. “But don’t take our word for it. Come and hear it for yourself!”

After that first set, the brothers will be joined by Driscoll on the tenor saxophone and clarinet, Jeff Picker on bass, Nick Anderson on drums, and Rob Cuellari on rhythm guitar for a second set of completely different “gypsy jazz-inspired” songs. The show is BYOB and donations are being accepted at the door. The event can be viewed on the calendar page.
