I recently had the opportunity to sit down and chat with local coach Alison Skoff, who took me on a tour of her career and explained what it’s like living on the bright side.

As a personal development coach, Skoff assists her clients in creating their own success stories by focusing on goals and developing plans to achieve them. In addition to life coaching, she also offers health and wellness coaching and encourages her clients to maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

For nine years, Skoff worked as an occupational therapist, but while she enjoyed her work, she knew something was missing. It wasn’t until after she spoke with a friend and participated in a nutritional detox that “the light switch turned on” and she knew what she needed to do. This change took place three years ago, and she’s been glowing ever since. Believing that everyone is born with certain gifts and has their very own inner light, she named her Dunmore-based coaching business “A Life on the Bright Side.”

In her practice, Skoff maintains an overall ontological approach in dealing with her clients. Ontology is the philosophy and study of being and existence and is included in the part of philosophy called metaphysics.

Though not always, many times her clients are interested in a total life transformation, which includes both life coaching and health and wellness coaching to ensure maximum results. Through friendly discussion, Skoff and the client take a look at all areas of life to discover what is and isn’t working properly. These areas include, but are not limited to, health and diet, relationships with self and others, the mind and thoughts, goal-setting strategies, and various other areas of interest that play a part in our personal and daily lives.

She is currently enrolled in a program by Accomplishment Coaching to receive accreditation as an Associate Certified Coach, which is a program certified by the International Coaching Federation. In addition to mandatory coursework, she is expected to have regular consults with senior practitioners, keep record of her coaching sessions for mentor review, and travel to New York City each month for live class time. Skoff’s classmates travel from all around the northern states, Canada, and even the Caribbean.

As someone who worked within the system for many years, Skoff is grateful every day with her decision to leave in order to fulfill a higher purpose and to show her clients a brighter future of limitless possibility. She is passionate about her work in helping others to see the bright side, just as she was shown. She remembers fondly how that simple three-day detox led her into a world of self-discovery and personal development.

“It’s been an amazing journey, and I haven’t looked back since!” she stated while beaming a most radiant smile.

I am truly grateful to have met and interviewed Alison Skoff for this special Strength & Focus piece. I think Northeastern Pennsylvania is lucky to have such a wonderful coach living nearby, and I look forward to hearing of her (and her client’s) many successes in the very near future.
