Beer: Goat Boy

Brewer: Southern Tier Brewing Company

Style: Weizenbock

ABV: 7.50%

Description: Goat Boy pours a deep ruby/copper hue with a bubbly off-white head that leaves behind small traces of lacing on the glass. The aroma is filled with notes of bananas and sweet decadent malts with backing notes of clove and spices. The taste follows the nose with bananas again on display, backed with a deliciously sweet caramel malt bill that appears on the palate together as caramelized bananas, with notes of spices intermingling.

The medium body and high carbonation provide a creamy texture that aids in this beer’s high drinkability. This is a very easy-drinking beer that is a good example of the style and has something for everyone!

Ideal setting: Goat Boy has a wonderful array of flavors and a balanced sweetness that is perfect to fully enjoy a night at home. The decadent aromas and flavors should be savored, and to get the most out of the experience, a less overwhelming and quieter setting would serve the beer best.

Ideal music: The delicious banana bread-like aromas with wonderfully sweet malts make this a beer that is highly drinkable and fairly complex. Something about the sweetness of the caramel and banana notes makes this a beer that will conjure up thoughts of autumn and, with it, the enjoyable sounds of horror punk bands.

Some great albums to enjoy with Goat Boy are:

  • Calabrese – “The Traveling Vampire Show”
  • Misfits – “Static Age”
  • Nim Vind – “Fashion of Fear”
  • Pitch Black – “Pitch Black”

Ideal movie: Horror movies are most definitely a treat all year round and do not have to be viewed only during the fall. Goat Boy is the perfect beer to indulge in while relaxing with a loved one and viewing a frightening horror film.

Some great movies to watch with Goat Boy are:

  • “The Beyond”
  • “The Babadook”
  • “Suspiria”
  • “Tourist Trap”
  • “Let Sleeping Corpses Lie”

Ideal book: Relaxing in your favorite chair or in bed with a great book is one of the simple pleasures in life, and when paired with a fantastic beer like Goat Boy, it gets even better. A dark novel in the vein of horror or a thriller makes a wonderful night alone when paired with this beer.

Some great books to read with Goat Boy are:

  • “The Shining” by Stephen King
  • “Phantoms” by Dean Koontz
  • “Invisible Monsters” by Chuck Palahniuk
  • “The Illustrated Man” by Ray Bradbury

The perfect experience: Goat Boy is best enjoyed when shared with a loved one while relaxing together and watching a great horror movie. The moderate ABV and balanced sweetness when paired with a great movie and great company create a truly incredible evening.
