Since the breakup of his respected indie rock band A Social State last year, frontman Edward Cuozzo has been hard at work on his own solo material. On Thursday, Jan. 14, he released “Run Down Motels,” the first song from an upcoming acoustic EP he is putting out as he completes his full-length album at JL Studios in Olyphant.

Recorded, mixed, and mastered on his own at home, the track just came naturally to the Scranton singer/songwriter.

“There was no real inspiration for ‘Run Down Motel.’ I just came up with the first verse and kept trying to follow the lyrical theme set in the verse. The song sort of wrote itself afterwards,” Cuozzo told NEPA Scene.

“I’m kind of unsure what it’s about, to be honest with you. A lot of my songs work that way.”

The song can be streamed or downloaded for free via Bandcamp, or fans can name their own price if they wish to support him:

Like all of Cuozzo’s music, the poetry is obvious in the lyrics:

“Run Down Motels” lyrics:

In a sense I’m old ideals with slivered hands as trophy scars
Relative to question marks, I’ll be set last, and it breaks my heart

Only ask if you can’t really tell.
Throw away the reasoning you sell.
After all, we’re all ideas.
In due time.
Always, the good get hell.
We’re like run down motels.

Savor that you rest so silently, I try, then ask myself..
What if I let go? Did I let go? I’ll try and catch myself

Only ask if you can’t really tell
Promises you’re keeping to yourself
After all, we’re old ideas in a long line.
Always, the good get hell.
We’re like run down motels.

Only ask if you can’t really tell
I never thought it’d be the way it felt
After all, I was sure I’d won, what a good ride.
But only get the good get out of run down motels.
