A bear, dragon, shark, Minecraft pig, pirate ship, and a makeshift Jamaican bobsled were among the homemade cardboard vessels that rocketed, dragged, and flipped their way through the first-ever Fuzz 92.1 Cardboard Box Sled Derby held at Montage Mountain on Sunday, Feb. 28.

Nearly two dozen participants constructed homemade sleds using only cardboard, tape, string, and glue to slide their way down the snow tubing hill at the Scranton ski resort. Notable sleds included a bear constructed by the Creative Arts Club at Lackawanna College, an ice cream truck from White Haven-based Woods Ice Cream, a camouflaged snowmobile built by the U.S. Army, and a multiple-part ski patrol vehicle built by the team from Montage that came complete with confetti launchers.

Winners for the day included:

  • Most people in the sled to cross the finish line: Woods Ice Cream
  • Best Montage Mountain-themed sled (team only): Montage Ski Patrol
  • Fastest single person sled: DeLorean
  • Most creative/best concept sled: Unprotected Six tank
  • Epic fail sled: Drag-on
