Indie rockers Dr. Dog brought their Psychedelic Swamp Tour home to Philadelphia’s Fillmore on Saturday, April 16, taking the stage to an 8-bit version of their current single “Badvertise” before opening with an eerie execution of “The Beach” from their 2008 album “Fate.”

Things took off from there as the band delivered rollicking renditions of fan favorites like “That Old Black Hole” and “Lonesome.” This reviewer was a bit disappointed that they played only one song, “Bring My Baby Back,” from their latest album, “The Psychedelic Swamp,” which I believe is their best recording effort in years. I was looking forward to hearing more from this recently re-recorded and previously unreleased “first” album from 2001.

Dr. Dog left several of their more traveled songs off the setlist in lieu of older, rarely played material, such as “Alaska” and Die, Die, Die” from “We All Belong” and “Oh No,” which has gone from a setlist staple to a rarity in recent years. The band played fast and loose and long into the night, really enjoying entertaining the diehard hometown crowd.
