Northeastern Pennsylvania welcomed one of its favorite indie touring acts, Hank & Cupcakes, back to the area on Thursday, Aug. 4 with another riotous concert at the River Street Jazz Cafe in Plains.

Joined by Anthony “Shiny” Montini and Mark Dimirco, Wilkes-Barre singer/songwriter Katie Kelly played some of her original “outer-folk” music to get the party started, possibly giving the audience a little preview of what’s to come on her upcoming solo record, which she promises will be “radically different” from her work with The ClamStompers and Umbriel.

Then Hank & Cupcakes took the stage, with Cupcakes proudly displaying her seven-month pregnant belly as she sang and pounded on the colorful drums that matched the kaleidoscopic artwork on their new album, “Cheap Thrill,” never letting the baby slow her down – in fact, their child may have been dancing along with everyone else.

The explosive energy of the couple from Tel Aviv who now call Atlanta, Georgia home never let up, living up to any hype and glowing reviews that will inevitably follow them across the country as they tour straight through September.
