Celebrate New Year’s Eve with free, family-friendly entertainment at Ritz Theater in Scranton

With the annual First Night Scranton ending in 2016 after 16 years, Lackawanna County and the Creative and Performing Arts Academy of NEPA are stepping up to host a free, family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebration at the Ritz Theater in downtown Scranton.

Starting at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 31 and running through midnight, the Lackawanna County New Year’s Eve Spectacular will have three stages of entertainment inside and outside of The Ritz (222 Wyoming Ave., Scranton), including local bands, Damian the Magician, face painting, balloon artists, dance performances, horse carriage rides and, of course, fireworks at midnight.

Bands scheduled to perform include the Dave Jumper Brass Band with New Orleans-style brass music, Scranton folk band The Dishonest Fiddlers, Easton rockers Doubting Thoma$, and Southern rock tribute act Delta Thunder playing the music of Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Allman Brothers Band.

Food will be provided by Terra Preta POSH, Doc Popcorn, and more with a free hot chocolate station.

There is no entry fee or ticket fees of any kind for the entertainment. Parking is free on the street or $5 in Glazer’s Parking Lot (229-235 Wyoming Ave., Scranton) across the street.
