Scranton indie rockers A Social State released the first single from their upcoming second full-length album today, the sorrowful yet catchy “Aging Egomaniac.”

The song is streaming now on YouTube (embedded below) and can be purchased on the group’s Bandcamp, where the lyrics have also been posted:

Aging Egomaniac

I get lost at home drinking all alone.
I’m an aging egomaniac.
I rehearse my words to enforce my worth,
still I’m fading like a photograph.
I’m perverted, and manic. I take my time.
I’m 25 going out of my mind.
I get lost in the mirror, have I made it clear?
I’m an aging egomaniac.

But in front of you I’m always a gentlemen.

I make it sound so great just to see you sulk.
I’m a burnt out Cobain wannabe.
I play the part of a poet who’s addicted to drugs
in a B list no one came to see.
I am violence, impatient with the kids downtown.
It’s not who I’m supposed to be right now.
I get lost in the mirror, have I made it clear?
I’m a burnt out Cobain wannabe.

But in front of you I’m always a gentlemen.

Money lies to your lonesome eyes,
and It makes you hate the love you hold inside.
What if money could buy you a real way to hide?
Well, I’d rather just lay here with you and not get up.

But in front of you I’m always a gentlemen

The new record, “How To Get To Heaven,” will be released on Saturday, Sept. 6 at a show at TwentyFiveEight Studios (703 N. Washington Ave. Rear, Scranton) with Blinded Passenger, Eww Yaboo, and A Fire With Friends. A Social State also has a show coming up at The Other Side (119 S.
