From a press release:

Local bands, a silent auction, DJs broadcasting from a roof, and the opportunity to win prizes, including autographed music memorabilia, will highlight the 9th annual Roof-A-Thon, which will be held Sept. 12-13 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Wendy’s (709 Davis St., Scranton).

Sponsored by Quality Served Fast, Inc., our local Wendy’s franchise, and Cumulus Media, all proceeds of the Roof-A-Thon will benefit the Lackawanna County Chapter of the American Red Cross.

“We are extremely grateful to Wendy’s and Cumulus Media for once again, sponsoring this successful and fun event. With their generosity and participation, we are able to continue to support the local community with essential Red Cross programs and services,” Sherry Nealon-Williams, executive director of the American Red Cross Lackawanna County Chapter, commented.

Steve Kepic, who operates several Wendy’s restaurants in Luzerne and Lackawanna Counties, has announced a special promotion for this year’s event. For each Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger sold at any Wendy’s location in Luzerne or Lackawanna County during both days of the Roof-A-Thon, Wendy’s will donate $1 to the American Red Cross of Lackawanna County.

“All of us at Wendy’s, including our employees and customers, are proud to do what we can to help our local Red Cross. It gives us the opportunity to raise much-needed funds for the chapter, while, at the same time, celebrate all that Red Cross does for the community. I hope everyone can come on down to help us,” Kepic said.

Cumulus station 97.9X will be on hand to keep the party going. DJs Hollywood, Tori Thomas, Hot Wings, and Eric Zane will broadcast live at various times from the roof of Wendy’s for the two day Roof-A-Thon. Cumulus will also host a silent auction featuring many unique music memorabilia items, including: an autographed drumhead from Def Leppard; a set of drumsticks autographed by Alice in Chains; an autographed Dave Matthews Band poster, CD box sets from Nirvana, Ozzy Osbourne, and AC/DC; and much more.

Local bands, including Gone Crazy Trio, Graces Downfall, Diamond City Trio, Dani-elle, and Militia, will be performing live on both days of the event thanks to Rock Street Music.

The Calendar Girls of Northeast PA will visit the Roof-a-thon to sell their 2014-2015 annual calendar, with 50 percent of the proceeds from each sale donated to the American Red Cross.

Throughout the event, Red Cross staff and volunteers will be on-hand with valuable information about lifesaving Red Cross programs and services. The Bloodmobile will be on-site on Friday, Sept. 12 from noon-5 p.m. for a blood drive. Donors must be age 17 or older and healthy. Each donor will receive a brief examination during which temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and hemoglobin are measured.

Additionally, there will be Roof-a-Thon t-shirts for sale, with proceeds to benefit the Red Cross, and a Bucket Brigade will be collecting donations from drivers passing by.

Volunteers for this two-day event are still needed. Call 570-823-7161 for more information.
