It’s so nice when things are simple.

These chocolate peanut butter applesnacks are just that, with pure assembly required.

The secret is in picking the right apple. There are a lot of really great ones out there for snacking and, while I prefer Fuji, you may have your own preference. If you aren’t entirely sure, here’s a quick little guide to apple varieties:

Honeycrisp: Hence the name, this apple is very crisp and sweet like honey.
Cortland: Tart and crisp, these brown very slowly, as compared to other apples.
Empire: Sweet and crisp, these are firmer than most.
Golden Delicious: Just look at that name! How can you go wrong? These apples are the most versatile, sweet and juicy, and good for everything from eating raw to baking.
McIntosh: If the Empire is too firm, try this softer apple that’s also sweet and juicy

Week 5 (Oct. 2-Oct. 6): Chocolate Peanut Butter Applesnacks

Knowledge while you nosh:

My boys are on a bye this week – that’s right, Miami’s not playing anyone, and neither are the Oakland Raiders.

However, you can look forward to a couple of great Sunday games: the Baltimore Ravens and the Indianapolis Colts at 1 p.m. on CBS and the Cincinnati Bengals and the New England Patriots at 8:30 p.m. on NBC. Monday night football goes to the Seattle Seahawks and the Washington Redskins.

*Note that all times are EST and you may not be able to get certain games, depending on the area in which you live.

CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER APPLESNACKS

INGREDIENTS:

  • As many apples as you want to slice (if you have a fancy apple corer, you’ll get 8 to 12 slices, depending on what type you have)
  • Peanut butter
  • Granola
  • Cinnamon
  • Chocolate syrup (optional)

DIRECTIONS:

Slice your apple into wedges. On each slice, spoon a bit of peanut butter, sprinkle on some cinnamon, sprinkle on granola and, if you’re using chocolate, dribble that on top.

And then eat it – it’s honestly that simple.
