From a press release:

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival first took place in August 1947 and has since inspired communities worldwide to develop their own versions of this engaging performing arts-based model. In October 2015, Scranton will join the ranks of New York, Orlando, Chicago, Kansas City, and many other U.S. cities as the host of its own fringe festival.

The Scranton Fringe Festival will be curated/led by a core team of community members headed by founder/executive director Conor A. O’Brien, the former co-director of The Vintage Theater in Scranton.

The core values of the 2015 Scranton Fringe Festival, in the spirit of many other fringes, include:

  • Performing arts centered: from original drama/comedy to experimental revivals to cabaret/vaudeville to dance/movement-based – all art is welcomed on the fringe
  • Uncensored: language, nudity, etc., are not restricted, nor are family-friendly shows avoided – all content is welcome
  • Affordable: low ticket prices for patrons and no application/production fees from participating artists

The 2015 Scranton Fringe Festival will take place across multiple venues in downtown Scranton between the dates of Oct. 1-4, 2015. Ticket prices will be kept low and affordable, with multi-ticket passes available for even additional savings. Applications for interested artists will go live in February 2015 with a deadline of April 10, 2015.

Further information, including special Scranton Fringe programming for all of 2015, sponsorship opportunities, etc., will be announced as they develop. NEPA Scene and WAX Creative Marketing have already signed on as media sponsors of the event.

A fund/awareness raiser will take place on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014 at 6 p.m. at the AfA Gallery (514 Lackawanna Ave., Scranton) for the Scranton Fringe Festival. Information on the festival itself, application process, sponsorship info, etc., will be available, and fringe team members will be on hand to answer any questions.

The “Scranton Fringe-tastic Party” will feature complimentary food/drink, live entertainment, a photo booth, and more. There is no ticket cost for the event, though a $10 donation is suggested.
