From a press release:

In conjunction with Lung Cancer Awareness Month, Scranton will be one of 200 cities across the world participating in the sixth annual Shine a Light on Lung Cancer, the largest lung cancer event in the world, on Thursday, Nov. 13.

Held from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. on the North Washington Avenue side of Courthouse Square in downtown Scranton, Shine a Light on Lung Cancer provides the community with hope, inspiration, and support for those impacted by lung cancer and those at risk – from survivors to the newly diagnosed to loved ones to healthcare professionals to those simply wanting to help.

Attendees will learn about the latest advancements to fight lung cancer, hear stories of survival, and connect with others in the lung cancer community.

The event is free and open to all. Discounted Shine a Light t-shirts are available for purchase with online registration.

Local members of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Lung Cancer Alliance planted tiny flags across the front lawn of the Courthouse earlier this month to raise awareness, with each flag representing 100 people who will die from lung cancer this year. A video of the event by Shuta Multimedia is below:

On Wednesday, Dec. 3 from 5 p.m.-7 p.m., a wine fundraiser for the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Lung Cancer Alliance will be held at POSH at the Scranton Club (404 N. Washington Ave., Scranton).

For $15, participants will get wine, beer, and soda, along with POSH appetizers. $5 from each person attending will be donated back to the Lung Cancer Alliance. Everyone will receive a chance to win door prizes, and the bar will remain open after the event for those who wish to stay.

Camera for a Cure will offer some great gift ideas, with all proceeds being donated to the Lung Cancer Alliance.
