Does this video change your opinion of Wilkes-Barre at all?
It’s no secret that Wilkes-Barre has had its share of bad publicity in the last few years, from the troubled Sherman Hills apartment complex to the rise of drugs and violent crime in once quiet neighborhoods, often overshadowing the introduction of new businesses and the arts and culture events that occur in the city every week.
At its annual dinner last night, Nov. 12, the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce premiered a video with a much different picture of the Diamond City than the newspapers and nightly TV news paint called “Greater Wilkes-Barre: A Great Place to Work, Live, Experience.” From the River Common to the various universities to the Pocono Downs racetrack, the Chamber showcases the positive activities and beautiful scenery in the center of the Wyoming Valley.
Chamber CEO Wico van Genderen also put his slideshow presentation from the dinner online, highlighting other optimistic points regarding the future of Wilkes-Barre:
Those who live and work in the city showed their love and appreciation for it last night at the dinner and on social media, but will this progressive spirit catch on? Will this video help to combat the negativity and pessimism that surrounds an area plagued with crime and political corruption, or is this just wishful thinking? Tell us what you think in the comments below or on Facebook and Twitter.
