There have been many nostalgic tributes to The Globe Store lately, including holiday displays in the former store’s windows on Wyoming Avenue made up of original Globe items collected from local residents. The Backyard Ale House, located just a few blocks over, has its own unique tribute planned, recreating the menu of the Charl-Mont restaurant that opened inside the store in the 1960s and closed along with it in 1994.

As WVIA’s “Back in the Day” program noted last year, “The crown atop the Charl-Mont logo served as a graceful symbol of the elegant experience the shoppers would receive when entering The Globe Store.”

“One of our great memories from the holidays of our youth was taking trips to The Globe department store to go shopping with our parents and to see Santa Claus and finishing the day with dinner in the Charl-Mont Restaurant,” the Ale House wrote.

“As a tribute to the memory of the Charl-Mont and days gone by, we are recreating some our favorite dishes that we would enjoy at the Charl-Mont on our ‘Daily Features Menu.'”
