Beer Boys, the Wilkes-Barre bar and restaurant that features the area’s largest draft selection with 72 beers on tap, will be celebrating 16 years in business with 16 highly sought-after beers on tap by Founders Brewing Company on Sunday, Jan. 24, starting at 2 p.m. Every day for the next 16 days, we’ll be revealing each beer that will be available and reviewing them all leading up to the event!

Beer: Double Trouble

Brewery: Founders Brewing Company

Style: American Double/Imperial IPA

ABV: 9.40%

IBU: 86

Judging by the label, it’s possible that this beer should be enjoyed while upside down, but for the purposes of our review (and to not make a mess), we’ll drink this one the old-fashioned way.

Double Trouble pours a hazy golden color with a thick white head, giving off the fresh aroma of hops, tropical fruits, and malt. The malts unexpectedly overtake the piney hops a bit, and the sweet pineapple and grapefruit flavors mixed in the medium mouthfeel work well with the bitter finish.

This DIPA masks its alcohol nicely as it goes down smooth, so it could spell trouble if you’re not mindful of it.

Beers will be available to sample individually in a five-ounce glass, build a paddle of four five-ounce samples, or as individual pints. Prices will vary.
