A mysterious new group mixing post-punk, indie rock, new wave, neo-psychedelia has emerged from Northeastern Pennsylvania, made up of bands of the past and sounds of the future.

Death Valley Dreams released their self-titled debut EP on Friday, Jan. 15 and played their CD release show the following evening at the River Street Jazz Cafe in Plains.

Reuniting vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist Nick Coyle (The Drama Club, Stardog Champion) and guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist Jon Nova (The Drama Club, An Albatross) and joined by bassist/vocalist Matt Rutkoski and drummer Ryan Dougherty, Death Valley Dreams only formed last fall but delivered an energetic and haunting performance that reflected the many years they’ve spent onstage in other bands.

Fellow NEPA musicians Moonbagg and Aaron Fink opened Saturday night. Death Valley Dreams’ next concert is Saturday, Feb. 20 at McGrath’s Pub & Eatery (112 E. Main St., Dalton) with Fink and Dustin Douglas & The Electric Gentlemen. For more information, see the Facebook event page.
