There are three St. Patrick’s Day parades in Northeastern Pennsylvania, but the biggest continues to reign supreme.
The Scranton St. Patrick’s Parade is the second largest in the country, with over 12,000 participants and about 100,000 spectators annually. From a rockin’ outdoor party at the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel with Nowhere Slow to fire breathing bartenders at Whiskey Dick’s, the 55th Parade Day in the Electric City was packed with entertainment in every corner of downtown Scranton. Even actress Kate Flannery, who played Meredith Palmer on NBC’s “The Office,” made an appearance in the long cavalcade.
The festivities began with the Parade Day Mass at St. Peter’s Cathedral at 10 a.m., followed by the Brian P. Kelly Memorial Two-Mile Footrace at 11 a.m. before the parade stepped off at 11:45 a.m. Wilkes-Barre’s parade was held the following day.
