Not many bands can truly be considered “legendary.” The Beach Boys are regarded as the most iconic American band and one of the most critically acclaimed, commercially successful, and widely influential groups of all time.

Creators of classic songs described as “teenage symphonies to God,” The Beach Boys invented California rock. Their songs celebrated a West Coast teen fantasy, full of surfing, driving, and pretty girls. Manicured tracks with an ultra-smooth blend of guitars and vocal harmonies created a signature pop sound as recognizable as any in rock history.

The group had over 80 songs chart worldwide, 36 of them U.S. Top 40 hits (the most by an American rock band), four reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The Beach Boys have sold in excess of 100 million records worldwide, making them one of the world’s best-selling bands of all time.

Pet Sounds” is preserved in the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress for being “culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant.” Their recordings of “In My Room,” “Good Vibrations,” “California Girls,” and the entire “Pet Sounds” album have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and Rolling Stone ranked The Beach Boys No. 12 on its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.

The Temptations, known for their choreography, distinct harmonies, and flashy wardrobe, were highly influential to the evolution of R&B and soul music.

Over the course of their career, the Motown group has released four Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 singles and 14 R&B No. 1 singles, and their material has earned them three Grammy Awards. They were the first Motown recording act to win a Grammy Award, and in 2013, they received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

Having sold tens of millions of albums, The Temptations are one of the most successful groups in music history. Three classic Temptations songs, “My Girl,” “Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me),” and “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone,” are among the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. They were also ranked at No. 68 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, with the band’s original members inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989.
