From a press release:

The Gaslight Theatre Company will launch its 15th season with the original play “Playroom: Back Porch” on July 20, which will run for two weekends in Wilkes-Barre.

Gaslight Theatre Co. presents its sixth installment of the original one-act “Playroom” series on July 20, 21, and 22 at 8 p.m.; July 23 at 2 p.m.; July 27, 28, and 29 at 8 p.m.; and July 30 at 2 p.m. in their new home in the East End Centre (200 East End Centre, Heinz Rd., Wilkes-Barre).

Created by playwright and former artistic director/board member Matthew S. Hinton, “Playroom” uses the same set design to inspire playwrights to craft individual one-acts around the same space, resulting in an evening of short-form theatre that quickly ebbs and flows through provoking and laugh-out-loud moments.

This year, the company moves to the “Back Porch” for seven captivating stories written by the
region’s most talented playwrights, including “Brothers in Arms” by Dane Bower, “Swim” by
Emily Halbing, “Patres Familias” by Matthew S. Hinton, “We Don’t Live Here Anymore” by Lori
M. Myers, “The Lady and the Tramp” by Michael Pavese, “Backyard Family Challenge” by B.
Garret Rogan, and “Safe as Houses” by Rachel Luann Strayer.

The “Playroom” series is presented in repertory style with some directors and actors being cast in multiple plays. This year’s cast includes 22 different actors from both Luzerne and Lackawanna counties. The short stories are showcased between small vignettes that tie the series together.

Previous rooms (in order of production) include the kitchen, bathroom, attic, master bedroom,
and garage.

Tickets, which are $15 for adults and $12 for students/seniors, are on sale now and can be purchased online via Ticketfly or at the door. Seating is general admission and limited, so advance purchases are highly recommended. For more information, call 570-266-8565 or visit gaslight-theatre.org.
