Following the deaths of Gregg Allman and Butch Trucks earlier this year, the sixth annual Peach Music Festival on Thursday, Aug. 10 through Sunday, Aug. 13 was the first year without Gregg or The Allman Brothers Band, but their presence was still felt throughout The Pavilion at Montage Mountain and Montage Mountain Waterpark in Scranton through former band members, friends, colleagues, a touching all-star tribute, and the general spirit of the lively festival they founded.

The well-received headlining set by My Morning Jacket on Friday was followed by standout Peach Stage performances by Widespread Panic, Joe Bonamassa, Gov’t Mule & Friends, Lettuce featuring Chaka Khan, Umphrey’s McGee, Dark Star Orchestra, and the final concert from Les Brers, founded by Trucks in 2015, while the smaller Mushroom and Grove Stages featured Scranton’s own Cabinet (who headlined their own Susquehanna Breakdown at The Pavilion in May), tribute act Pink Talking Fish playing The Allman Brothers Band’s album “Eat a Peach” in its entirety, Pittsburgh jam band Rusted Root, and many up-and-coming acts like Hayley Jane and the Primates, Fruition, and The Steppin Stones.

With rumors floating around that this could be the final year of Peach Fest, 2017’s edition left us hoping for more fruitful festivals like this one in the future.
