Musical icon Diana Ross sings at Hershey Theatre on Sept. 28

It was announced today that legendary singer, artist, and actress Diana Ross, Billboard’s “Female Entertainer of the Century,” will perform at the Hershey Theatre on Friday, Sept. 28 at 8 p.m.
Tickets for this show, which range from $77.15-$222.15 (processing fees apply), go on sale this Friday, June 22 at noon and will be available at the Hershey Theatre box office (15 E. Caracas Ave., Hershey), online at hersheyentertainment.com and ticketmaster.com, and by phone at 717-534-3405 and 800-745-3000.
When you look at her career, both as a solo artist and the lead singer of The Supremes, Diana Ross is one of the most prolific female singers of our era, earning a Guinness World Record as the most successful female artist of all time with 27 Top 40 singles.
As a member of the Motown super group, Ross garnered 12 No. 1 hits on Billboard’s Top 100, making The Supremes one of the bestselling “Girl Groups” of all time. Hits like “You Can’t Hurry Love,” “Stop! In the Name of Love,” “You Keep Me Hanging On,” and “Someday We’ll Be Together” have been part of the soundtrack of everyday life for decades.
As a solo artist, the success continued as she earned six more No. 1 hits with songs such as “Reach Out and Touch (Somebody’s Hand),” “Love Hangover,” and “Touch Me in the Morning.”
Ross also branched out into acting, starring in a film biography of Billie Holiday, “Lady Sings the Blues” – the soundtrack went to No. 1, and she was nominated for an Academy Award. This was followed by starring roles in “Mahogany” and “The Wiz.”
All the while, the music kept coming with hits like “Upside Down,” “I’m Coming Out,” and “Endless Love,” to name a few.
Ross was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Supremes alongside Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard. South African President Nelson Mandela, at his first meeting with her, referred to her as “someone who always seems to be running, never walking; she is an inspiration to us all.”
In 2004, McNally Smith College of Music honored her by the establishment of a full four-year scholarship in her name. The Diana Ross Performance Scholarship is awarded each year to an outstanding student who is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in music.
Ross’ international achievements were acknowledged by the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors in Washington, D.C. in 2007. The honor celebrated her lustrous career of excellence in music, film, television, and theatre, as well as her cultural influences, humanitarian work, and her contributions to American culture. The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences celebrated her remarkable career with its highest honor, the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, in 2012.
In 2016, President Barack Obama said “she exudes glamour and grace; her influence is inescapable” as he presented her with a Medal of Freedom Award, the most prestigious award given to a U.S. citizen.
With a career spanning over 50 years, 70 hot singles, and over a 140 million records sold, she is truly a musical legend.
The wristband policy will be in effect for this concert. Fans are permitted on the Hershey Theatre property beginning at 7 a.m. on June 22. Two hours prior to the on-sale, fans will be directed in front of the Hershey Theatre box office, where they will be issued a numbered wristband. Wristbands are available for one hour and, at the conclusion of that hour, a selected fan will randomly choose a wristband that will determine the line order. Once the line is in place, fans arriving after the wristbands were issued will be escorted to the end of the numbered line.
