Welcome to a place of make believe – New York Comic Con, where you can be yourself by not being yourself.

Thousands of people spend hundreds of thousands of hours creating elaborate costumes (cosplay) of their favorite pop culture icons in hopes of luring photographers and boosting their Instagram profiles to land the big fish – corporate sponsorships. Not to sound to jaded – some people just do it for fun, while some phone it in. Buying skintight, ready-made Spider-Man or Spider-Gwen spandex is not cosplay, sorry, though one couple phoned it in so well that they made it into this column.

Held at the Jacob K. Javits Center in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan on Thursday, Oct. 4 through Sunday, Oct. 7, NYCC was great fun. To me, it’s a Halloween and Christmas sandwich, and I’m the peanut butter. Enjoy… I sure did.

P.S. The cop assured me he was not wearing a costume.

See the 2018 NYCC celebrity photos here. For last year’s photos of both cosplayers and celebrities, see Part 1 here and Part 2 here.

These are the Beautiful People of NEPA. New faces are featured on Wednesdays.
