Lackawanna County lights up Courthouse Christmas tree with carols and hot chocolate on Dec. 5
From a press release:
The official lighting of the Lackawanna County Christmas tree will be held this Thursday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. at the flag plaza on North Washington Avenue on Courthouse Square in downtown Scranton.
The festive free event will offer refreshments, carols, and a lot of holiday fun.
According to the Lackawanna County Commissioners Patrick M. O’Malley, Jerry Notarianni, and Laureen A. Cummings, the ceremony will commence at 6 p.m. with Christmas carols sung by the Catholic Choral Society, followed by brief remarks by the commissioners and their family members.
At approximately 6:15 p.m., the county tree will be lit, adding to the glow of the holiday season as downtown Scranton dresses its storefronts with Christmas decorations. On Friday, Dec. 6, the county will light up the former Globe Store nearby to kick off the second annual Lackawanna Winter Market.
The Scranton Chapter of UNICO National and La Festa Italiana of Lackawanna County are donating refreshments for the ceremony; their members will be serving hot chocolate and cookies.
