After 50+ plus years of playing together, Blue Öyster Cult singers/guitarists Eric Bloom and Buck Dharma weren’t going to be stopped by a cold and rainy night – or even the pandemic – in Dickson City on Saturday, May 29.

The New York-based prog rock progenitors and classic rock icons opened the Circle Drive-In Theatre’s 2021 Summer Concert Series to an enthusiastic crowd who were ready to get back to rocking, weather be damned.

With voices barely touched by age, the men harmonized and traded leads on mega hits “Burnin’ for You,” “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper,” and “Godzilla,” along with deep cuts and new material from their 2020 release “The Symbol Remains.” The sound at the drive-in was impeccable as Dharma’s legendary guitar solos dodged the rain drops on their way to an eager audience’s ears.

Those who missed out can see Blue Öyster Cult indoors later this year when they return to Penn’s Peak in Jim Thorpe on Friday, Dec. 10. The next rock artist set to perform on the new stage at the Circle Drive-In will be Steve Earle on Sunday, July 25; tickets are on sale now.
