Country legend Vince Gill is back at F.M. Kirby Center in Wilkes-Barre on May 9

From a press release:
Vince Gill – the 22-time Grammy Award winner and highly-acclaimed musician, songwriter, vocalist, and producer – announced today that he will embark on a 30+ city summer tour, beginning May 8 and wrapping in August with four nights in Nashville at the Ryman Auditorium.
There is much anticipation, as this summer’s tour will have the Country Music Hall of Famer returning to some cities where he has not performed with his band in many years, including Wilkes-Barre on Friday, May 9. He previously played at the F.M. Kirby Center in 2017.
Gill has spent most of the last eight years as a touring member of the Eagles. The iconic band is currently in the middle of a lengthy run, performing before sellout crowds at the Sphere in Las Vegas. It was officially 50 years ago this summer when he left his home in Oklahoma and began touring.
“I left home 50 years ago to try and become an accomplished musician and perform in front of whoever would show up. All these years later, it feels as special today as it ever did,” Gill said.
Doors at the Kirby Center (71 Public Square, Wilkes-Barre) open at 6 p.m., and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. “An Evening with Vince Gill” will be presented as part of the PNC Celebrity Series.
Tickets, which are $68, $78, $93, and $129, plus applicable fees, go on sale this Friday, Feb. 21 at 10 a.m. at the Kirby Center box office during regular business hours (Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.), online at kirbycenter.org and ticketmaster.com, and by phone at 570-826-1100. An exclusive pre-sale for Kirby Members begins Thursday, Feb. 20 at 10 a.m.
One of the most popular artists in modern country music, Vince Gill is famous for his top-notch songwriting, world-class guitar playing, and warm, soaring tenor, all wrapped up in a quick and easy wit. He achieved his big breakthrough in 1990 with “When I Call Your Name,” which won both the Country Music Association’s Single and Song of the Year awards, as well as a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance, Male. In total, the 67-year-old has won 18 CMA Awards, 22 Grammys (his most recent one for Best Country Solo Performance with “When My Amy Prays”), and eight Academy of Country Music Awards, including its Home Depot Humanitarian Award and the Career Achievement Award.
In 1991, he was invited to become a member of The Grand Ole Opry, a position he treasures, and he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2007. In 2012, he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which was placed in cement right next to his wife Amy Grant’s star. A gifted songwriter, Gill’s compositions earned him entry into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005, and he was given the prestigious BMI Icon award in 2014.
Throughout his career, he has released 21 albums, sold over 30 million albums, and charted 45 singles. In 2022, Gill was inducted into the Musician’s Hall of Fame. Always considering himself a musician above all else, he has over the years been a part of some iconic bands, including Pure Prairie League, The Notorious Cherry Bombs, and The Time Jumpers. In 2017, he was asked to join the Eagles on the road and continues to be a part of that historic band’s tour.
Known for his many collaborations, Gill has made guest appearances on more than 1,000 albums and has performed and/or recorded with artists such as Barbra Streisand, James Taylor, Sting, Emmylou Harris, Diana Krall, Jimmy Webb, Bruno Mars, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, George Jones, and Paul Franklin. His collaborative efforts also include albums he has produced for Amy Grant, Ashley Monroe, The Time Jumpers, and Wendy Moten.
