From a press release:

Dress for Success Luzerne County and the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce are in the final planning stages of the inaugural International Women’s Day Celebration Luncheon. Proceeds from this event will provide financial support to Dress for Success, which provides career appropriate attire, job training, and educational opportunities that empower women in Luzerne County as they attempt to build careers or re-enter the workforce.

The luncheon is being held on International Women’s Day – Friday, March 8 – at the Westmoreland Club (59 S. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre) beginning at 11:30 a.m. The $30 fee to attend will cover the cost of a buffet lunch and networking opportunity with other women in the community who share the desire to empower women. Tickets are available online at wilkes-barre.org.

The event will feature Dr. Lauren Hazzouri, a licensed psychologist based in Scranton and the founder of Not Therapy, a lifestyle program revolutionizing the way girls and women care for their emotional health. A mentor auction will give attendees the opportunity to bid on time with local female community leaders Lori Nocito of Leadership Wilkes-Barre, Haley Bianco of WBRE, Elva Valentine of Valentine’s Fine Jewelry, public speaking coach Clancy Cash Harrison, Maggie Sheehy Zembruski of Dundee Gardens, and Suzanne Kapral of Lands at Hillside Farms.

“It’s a critical time for women,” said Linda Armstrong, founder and executive director of Dress for Success Luzerne County.

“We are called upon to be perfect homemakers and mothers and executives – all at the same time. That pressure comes from our internal dialogue as well as from society. Our International Women’s Day celebration is a time when we can just relax, have fun, and support each other while we help those women who need a little extra.”

“We are so excited and proud to be partnering with Dress for Success Luzerne County on this important day to provide an educational and interactive experience for women in our region”, said Lindsay Griffin, COO of the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce.

“Collaborations like these help to unite and strengthen our community and bring us together as a dynamic force while celebrating and learning from some amazing women”

Since Dress for Success Luzerne County became operational in December of 2010, the program has reached 1,500 economically challenged women from the area by providing clothing, job interview support, and workforce guidance. Dress for Success continues to create programs to enhance economic and social development, encouraging self-sufficiency through career development and employment retention.

Dress for Success is an international not-for-profit organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire, and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Since starting operations in 1997, Dress for Success has expanded to nearly 150 cities in 30 countries. To date, Dress for Success has helped more than 1,500,000 women work towards self-sufficiency.
