To quote Vizini, “Never go in with the Penguins when the playoffs are on the line!” OK, he didn’t really say that, but referencing “The Princess Bride” and the great Wallace Shawn is never a bad thing. Anywho…

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins entered Friday’s game needing a single win to qualify for the Calder Cup playoffs. The Cleveland Monsters were playing for pride and hoping to end a six-game losing streak. The Pens were protecting a one-point lead with three minutes left in regulation as the Monsters began a two-minute penalty. What could go wrong? Well, Cleveland could tie the game as they come back to full strength with 60 seconds on the clock… and they did. Disaster?! No! Radim Zohorna netted the Penguins winning goal in overtime! Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is playoff bound!

Meanwhile, after this win at Mohegan Arena in Wilkes-Barre, goalie Joel Blomqvist (23-10-6) is three wins from tying future NHL Hall of Famer and three-time Stanley Cup champion Marc-André Fleury’s WBS Pens rookie win record of 26. With seven games left, could Blomqvist match or even beat the second winningest goalie in NHL history?
