From a press release:

The Misericordia Players will present Green Day’s hit Broadway musical “American Idiot” on Thursday, April 18 through Sunday, April 21 at Misericordia University in Dallas.

Utilizing the iconic sound of multi-platinum punk rock band Green Day, “American Idiot” is the exhilarating journey of a new generation of Americans as they struggle to find meaning in a post-9/11 world. It follows the story of three 20-something young men raised in suburbia as they try to navigate their way through life. One chooses the big city, one joins the military, and one decides to stay home.

This high-octane show observes these three men through their relationships, their mistakes and, most of all, their journey to become the men they hope to be, celebrating the spirit of rebellion, the challenge of self-discovery, and the unforgettable music that defined a generation.

“What makes this show exciting is how it is so different from anything that Misericordia shows have been in the past,” said Morgan Gayton, social media coordinator for the Misericordia Players.

“The draw of Green Day in itself is a big selling point for me.”

The musical, which includes every song from the acclaimed 2004 album “American Idiot” as well as several songs from the band’s 2009 follow-up “21st Century Breakdown,” will have four performances in the Lemmond Theater at Misericordia University (301 Lake St., Dallas).

Show dates are Thursday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, April 19 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, April 21 at 2 p.m.

General admission is $8 at the door and $3 for students with an ID. Reservations can be made by calling the theater box office at 570-674-3069.

Scott Colin Woolnough, coordinator of the Alternative Learners Program at Misericordia University and the theatre program director, is directing this production.
