From a press release:

Playwright and performer Michael Burgos will return to the Scranton Fringe Festival with his internationally-acclaimed and award-winning solo show “The Eulogy” at the AfA Gallery (514 Lackawanna Ave., Scranton) on Friday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 1 at 4 p.m.; and Sunday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.

“The Eulogy” had a sold-out run at the inaugural Scranton Fringe Festival in October 2015 and has since gone on to be performed more than 100 times around the world.

Most notably, “The Eulogy” won “Best Comedy” at the 2016 Adelaide Fringe Festival (the second-largest arts festival in the world) and was picked up by Underbelly, a U.K.-based live entertainment company that produces internationally, to perform at the 2016 Edinburgh Fringe Festival (the largest arts festival in the world).

“The Eulogy” is an absurd, theatrical parody of a funeral speech in which a menagerie of inept and inapt characters give anything but a proper homage.

“It might be the worst funeral speech ever,” says Burgos, “but sometimes bad can be fun.”

In a tour that has spanned 20 cities over nine time zones, the Scranton Fringe Festival is only festival in the world that Burgos is returning to with his show.

“I had a blast at last year’s Scranton Fringe, and the festival occurred during a pivotal – and very memorable – moment in my career as a performer,” recalls Burgos. “In many ways, artistically, this feels like a homecoming.”

A graduate of the internationally renowned École Philippe Gaulier (alumni include Sacha Baron Cohen, Emma Thompson, and Helena Bonham Carter), Burgos is an internationally acclaimed writer and performer who holds a B.M. from Berklee College of Music and has toured with Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band.

Tickets are $10 or $7 with a Fringe button and are available at the door or online via TicketLeap. For more information, visit theeulogyplay.com.
