Skate on the ice of Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre to benefit Toys for Tots on Dec. 13
From a press release:
The Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre will open its doors for public ice skating this Thursday, Dec. 13 for the 15th annual Toys for Tots Open Skate, presented by Utz in support of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program.
Anyone bringing a new, unwrapped toy or making a $5 contribution to Toys for Tots is permitted to participate in the open skate, which will run from 6 p.m.-8 p.m.
This is the only day throughout the year that the public is allowed to skate on the ice at Mohegan Sun Arena (255 Highland Park Blvd., Wilkes-Barre Twp.), home to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Patrons must bring their own skates to participate in the open skate. Mohegan Sun Arena will not have skates on site for rent, and all guests that will be going onto the ice will need to be wearing skates.
Skate rentals are available at the Toyota SportsPlex Community Ice Rink (38 Coal St., Wilkes-Barre) for $3 per pair starting at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12. There are a limited number of skate rentals available. Proper photo ID and a credit card must be presented to rent skates. All skates must be returned to the Toyota SportsPlex before 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14.
A special holiday performance will be presented by skaters from the Diamond City Figure Skating Club, and Santa Tux from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will be in attendance.
Complimentary snacks will be available for guests courtesy of Utz Snack Foods, and light refreshments will be available for purchase, with partial proceeds donated to Toys for Tots.
All guests in attendance will have the opportunity to win some great prizes while at the event, like tickets to select Mohegan Sun Arena events, including the Harlem Globetrotters, Disney on Ice, World Championship Ice Racing, Justin Moore, Steve Martin and Martin Short, The Roadshow Tour, WWE Smackdown Live, TobyMac, Monster Jam, and club seats for a Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins game.
The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens. The objectives of Toys for Tots are to help less fortunate children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas; to play an active role in the development of one of our nation’s most valuable resources, our children; to unite all members of local communities in a common cause for three months each year during the annual toy collection and distribution campaign; and to contribute to better communities in the future.
The Mohegan Sun Arena is owned by the Luzerne County Convention Center Authority and managed by SMG.
