Just days after it was announced on NEPA Scene that Wilkes-Barre reggae artist George Wesley will be presented the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2016 Steamtown Music Awards on Thursday, Sept. 15, outdoor music venue Mountain Sky has announced that Wesley is dealing with “some serious and costly health issues” and will hold a two-day benefit concert for him on Saturday, June 25 and Sunday, June 26 to help him offset some of his healthcare costs.

Gates at Mountain Sky (63 Stillmeadow Lane, Jermyn) will open at noon on Saturday, and there will be live music from 2 p.m.-11 p.m. and camping overnight. On Sunday, music will run from noon-5 p.m.

Both days will feature food and craft vendors, basket and 50/50 raffles, kids’ activities, and cash bar service by The Vault. The event is BYOB, and IDs will be checked.

“George is not only one of the most talented musicians around, he is a beautiful person inside and out who is always first in line to lend a helping hand when needed. Let’s pull together and show him some love in his time of need. One love,” Mountain Sky wrote on its Facebook page.

Volunteers are needed to help run the event, and donations for basket raffles, food, bands, etc. are greatly appreciated. To give a basket or donation, contact Wendy Doloff at wendy@mountainsky.net. Vendors can contact Heather Savaro at heather@mountainsky.net.

The previously scheduled Derosa-Statuto Family Reunion set for the same date will still take place as planned – only now it will be a much larger family gathering.
