The long-running First Friday Scranton art walk has had a lasting impact on the city’s downtown area and its arts scene, bringing hundreds and sometimes thousands of patrons into businesses throughout the year to appreciate artwork, music, theatrical performances, and everything else the Electric City has to offer.

On Tuesday, March 21, the First Friday board announced that they will add Third Thursdays to downtown Scranton starting on April 20.

“Third Thursdays will focus on the performing arts, drawing on actors, writers, musicians, and improvisational groups to perform at venues in downtown Scranton,” they explained on Facebook, hoping to separate it a bit from First Fridays while maintaining the same general spirit with indoor and outdoor acts.

Those interested in participating in Third Thursdays can apply now on firstfridayscranton.com.

Founded in 1993, First Friday Scranton is held from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. on the First Friday of every month, boosting business in downtown shops, bars, cafes, restaurants, and galleries while supporting the arts. A walkable map of events is released just before each event, and a trolley bus is often available for easy transportation. The program is run by a 501(3) nonprofit, volunteer-supported organization with a board of directors and an advisory council.
