Mountain Sky in Jermyn reopens after permit issues, Still Grateful Fest 3 set for Sept. 11-12
Last month, the future of Jermyn outdoor music venue Mountain Sky was uncertain at best after Scott Township shut it down mid-season for not having the proper permits in place, but after meeting with council and talking things over with township residents, it seems that they’ll be back just in time for Still Grateful Fest 3.
The group posted the above image with the following celebratory message on their Facebook page on Thursday, Aug. 27:
Well friends, after a long summer of uncertainty, high hopes and many hurdles, we finally have some good news . . . WE’RE BACK!
Tonight, Thursday August 27th 2015 the Scott Township Council granted permission for Mountain Sky to proceed with events by means of approving a Conditional Use Permit.
A little compromise goes a long way and we are happy to operate under the agreed conditions.
We would like to thank Scott Township and all of it’s residents with whom we have come to terms. We look forward to creating a long lasting and healthy working relationship with you all – sincerely, thank you.
As for our immediate plans . . . we’re Still Grateful! 😉
So we ask you to please save the date for the weekend of September 12th, 2015.
Details will be announced tomorrow for our Grand Re-Opening Celebration as well as a few additional dates in the works.
To everything, there is a season, and a time to every purpose . . . the wheel has turned.
Thank you everyone for your support.
Events previously scheduled there throughout July and August, such as the third annual Still Meadows Revue festival, were relocated to other venues while Mountain Sky issued a petition in hopes of reopening as soon as possible, garnering 1,557 signatures. Two of the group’s representatives, Mike Savaro and Michael “Ragu” Rogowski, were interviewed on Scranton radio station Rock 107 by the Prospector to explain the details of the situation:
Still Grateful Fest 3, which will also serve as a “Mountain Sky family reunion” and grand reopening party, is back on for Sept. 11-12, with Mountain Sky Orchestra headlining on Friday and the Village Idiots, Scranton’s longest-running Grateful Dead tribute band, closing out Saturday night. Tickets and other details can be found on Mountain Sky’s website and the Facebook event page.
