After the Mall at Steamtown changed its name to the Marketplace at Steamtown last year, local shoppers have been waiting for the downtown Scranton building to live up to this new moniker. Now, as construction on the former food court nears completion, a new event will welcome people into the space and give them an idea of what this marketplace will be like.

With new floors, walls, lighting, and dividers to make room for dozens of vendors, the second floor food court has become the Scranton Public Market, which recently opened is own Facebook page. As vendors like Center City Wine Cellar move into those spaces, Forty Fort specialty food market Chic Chic Marketplace will host the inaugural Trim the Table event in the Scranton Public Market on Saturday, Dec. 16 and the following Saturday, Dec. 23 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The holiday-themed event promises to be a “one-stop shop for fresh baked goods, local meats, artisanal cheeses, and festive beverages for your table” where you can get anything from “hostess gifts” to “fresh centerpieces” to “cookies for Santa.” With food, drinks, live music, and swag bags containing discounts and freebies for the first 175 customers each day, Trim the Table seems to be taking hints from the success of the annual Scrantonmade Holiday Market in the nearby Globe Store, but with a larger focus on edible goods.

Trim the Table is on its way to becoming another yearly holiday celebration in Scranton, and those interested in vending this year can e-mail jess@chicchicmarket.com.
