A handful of the most talented musicians in the area paid tribute to the “Troubadour of Soul” on a snowy Friday night at the River Street Jazz Cafe in Plains, performing their own take on “Bill Withers Live at Carnegie Hall.”
Withers, best known for songs like “Lean on Me,” “Just the Two of Us,” “Ain’t No Sunshine,” and “Use Me,” recorded his Carnegie Hall concert on Oct. 6, 1972, and Mike Dougherty, Justin Mazer, AJ Jump, Rahboo Sabb, Nick Driscoll, and Jay Stefanski proved how timeless that music really is on Jan. 23. Folk singer/songwriter Charles Havira opened the local all-star show.
