Synaesthesia Social founder Ted Michalowski celebrated his birthday in the only way an eccentric illustrator should – by holding a private Synaesthetic Birthday Celebration at the Olde Brick Theatre in Scranton on Sunday, Feb. 8, featuring live music, illustration, performance art, and even circus acts.

Music was provided by the Improvisational All-Star Syntet (Jason Smeltzer, Doug Smith, Jamie Orfanella, Matt Scola, and Dirk Dekker) and Skeleton Equation (Luke Shefski, Adam Walker-Serrano the Penny Pincher a.k.a. Catscratch, Christine Oglesby, Chester Williams, and Cade Levinson), while The Eclectic Circus (Dani Davison, Jess Smallwood, James Bajda, Sinnaman Jesse Wilkinson, Naughty NeNé Renee, and Shakin’ Cheryl) provided crazy feats in such a tiny space. Vanity Society was the special guest, who was drawn on the birthday cake in icing by Michalowski.

Photographer Mary Frances Jackson of Chris Balton Production & Design Group provided NEPA Scene with plenty of fun photos from the event, which was by invitation only.

Other than this special show, though, Synaesthesia Social is open to the public every Sunday from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. at the Olde Brick Theatre (126 W. Market St., Scranton), bringing in a new musical or theatrical guest every week for patrons to draw or simply watch, enjoy, and socialize with.

The entire event was filmed for an hour-long program on local television station ECTV. To watch an exclusive video from this program, click here. To see photos from a previous Social, click here.
