SHELTER SUNDAY: Meet Aries (Rhodesian ridgeback mix) and Ben (bicolor kitten)
Blue Chip Farm Animal Refuge teams up with NEPA Scene every week for Shelter Sunday, a post that features dogs, cats, and occasionally some surprises up for adoption in the hopes of finding them a loving home.
Blue Chip Farm (974 Lockville Rd., Dallas) is a no-kill shelter, a place where no animal is too old or too unwanted to find a warm bed, good food, and most of all, love. Their mission is to provide a sanctuary where older, stray, abandoned, sick, or abused animals can wait to be adopted or simply live out their lives in safety and peace.

Aries is a 4-year-old Rhodesian ridgeback mix. He knows commands and is intelligent, brave, vigilant, and loyal to his family.
Aries can be reserved toward strangers, so socialize well. He has considerable stamina, and without enough mental and physical exercise, he may become high-strung and unmanageable. Aries needs a firm, confident, consistent pack leader who can provide rules he must follow and limits as to what he can and cannot do. Meek and/or passive owners, or owners who treat the dog like a human rather than a canine, will have a hard time controlling Aries.
When given what he needs, he will be an excellent companion dog, but he is not recommended for most people, as most do not have the time or energy to put into him. Aries reacts best to an extremely consistent and firm, but calm approach to training. He is smart and learns quickly, but he will be stubborn and willful if he is stronger-minded than the humans.
He is also a very good watchdog, but not suggested as a guard dog. He is very protective of his owner.
Ben is an 8-week-old male kitten. He is a little shy, but with the perfect family, he’s sure to warm up in no time.
