Ice skating outside Globe Store added to ScrantonMade Holiday Market Dec. 1-3

After becoming a huge success last year, the old Globe Store will once again light up for the holidays on Friday, Dec. 1, kicking off the fifth annual ScrantonMade Holiday Market that runs through Sunday, Dec. 3. This year, a new feature has been added to the festivities – ice skating.
Visitors and families can enjoy free old-fashioned outdoor ice skating on the 100 block of Wyoming Avenue during the hours that the market is open. Skaters will be asked to make a donation to Make-A-Wish, which will help to cover the cost of granting a wish for a Lackawanna County youngster and his/her family.
Featuring 150 local vendors in The Globe, which is now the Lackawanna County Government Center (123 Wyoming Ave., Scranton), the Holiday Market will run on Friday from 5 p.m.-9 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. A variety of musical entertainment is scheduled for all three days of the event.
The first floor window bays will be festively decorated for the season by ScrantonMade. Holiday designs will also adorn the windows on the Penn Avenue side of the building.
During the Holiday Market, COLTS will be picking up and dropping off passengers in the 100 block of Franklin Avenue, and parking will be free in the Electric City Garage (300 Spruce St., Scranton) on Dec. 1, 2, and 3.
When the doors open on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 11 a.m., the first 200 shoppers will receive a free goodie bag.
Everything begins on Friday at 4:30 p.m. with holiday selections performed by the choir of Scranton High School. A program with brief remarks by local officials will follow. The Lackawanna County Commissioners will flick a switch at approximately 5 p.m. to illuminate The Globe.
The Scranton Chapter of UNICO National and La Festa Italiana of Lackawanna County are donating the refreshments for this ceremony, and their members will be serving the hot chocolate and cookies. There will also be a visit from Santa Claus.
