Beat the NEPA Gaming Challenge guys at ‘Mario Kart 8’ and win prizes this Friday, Feb. 19
For nine full episodes, Jamie Nelson, proprietor of 1Up Games in Forty Fort, and Jim Loomis, founder of Go Left! Records in Edwardsville, have been entertaining NEPA Scene readers with the NEPA Gaming Challenge, putting their skills and egos on the line every week as they challenge each other in various video games across different consoles – and endure ridiculous and humiliating punishments when they lose.
Now, they’re challenging the public to a game of “Mario Kart 8” on the Wii U in their first-ever live event this Friday, Feb. 19 at 9 p.m. at The Susquehanna Tavern (167 Susquehanna Ave., Exeter), and there’s plenty of prizes and free drinks up for grabs!
You must be 18 to enter and 21 to drink. The cover is only $5, which gets you a free draft (or soda if you’re under 21), a guest spot on the next episode of the NEPA Gaming Challenge as you take on Jamie and Jim on in “Mario Kart 8,” and an entry to win one of the following prize packs:
- $50 gift certificate to 1Up Games, as well as the contents of a “mystery box” of video game merch
- $30 Susquehanna Tavern gift certificate, as well as beer taps, Blue Moon and Stella Artois glassware, and a cool metal Breck IPA beer sign
If you beat Jamie and Jim, you will receive an additional free drink as well as five additional entries for the prize pack of your choice.
If you decide to challenge them again (for an additional entry fee), you will receive your choice of another free beverage or an appetizer. In addition, you will receive five more prize pack entries and another guest spot on the NEPA Gaming Challenge. (Prizes for beating them remain the same.)
Additional raffle tickets will be available for more chances to win but, of course, the ultimate prize is victory!
In this bonus episode, Jamie and Jim race against John from The Susquehanna Tavern in preparation for the live event!
While the first beer is free upon entry, someone has to pay for it. This race will determine if Jim and Jamie will have to spring for the drinks or if drinks will be on the house!
