PHOTOS: Cabinet holiday show (with behind-the-scenes shots) at Kirby Center in Wilkes-Barre, 12/23/16
After selling out its Chandelier Lobby year after year, it was time for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre jam-grass band Cabinet to take the main stage of the F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts in Wilkes-Barre for their biggest holiday show yet on Friday, Dec. 23.
NEPA Scene hung out backstage before the fifth annual concert to catch the fun and general goofiness one would expect from a band of talented friends who have been playing together for 10 years now, celebrating that decade earlier this year with an anniversary tour with Horseshoes & Hand Grenades.
With an opening set of reinterpreted Grateful Dead and Phish tunes by pianist Holly Bowling, who also joined them on several songs throughout the night, Cabinet fittingly opened the hometown show with “Home Now,” leading into “O Christmas Tree” and back into “Home Now.” Dressed in their holiday best, they performed two full sets without a break, along with a three-song encore, filling the beautiful theater with foot stompin’ progressive bluegrass and festive good times with a fan base that is more often referred to as family.
